SO umm... I've been working on #ResistJam with a whole heap of amazing people. It's a week long online event where peeps new to game development and/or activism make a game with an anti-authoritarian theme. It start March 3, here's a link: https://itch.io/jam/resistjam At the end of the week, all the games get packaged up and sold, with proceeds going to global charities. Because it's about newbies, and swapping ideas and tools, we have two weeks of workshops in the lead up. This is the bit I've been co-ordinating: https://itch.io/t/62213/workshops-calendar-as-of-now There's everything from every day activism, queer and chronic health representation, pixel art, programming and Twine, narrative design, boardgame writing, just fuckin.. it's amazing. It's gotten a LOT of attention. We've partnered with IndieCade, IGDA, and Devolver Digital. That's like the Sundance of games, a great big dev alliance, and a great publisher! And we have a whole lot of super cool "celeb" type people mentoring during the jam and giving workshops.. We've been covered by Polygon, GameSpot, and a heap of other smaller websites. It doesn't start for another 2 1/2 weeks, and we already have 250+ signups. That's teams and/or individuals looking for a team. Many people from diverse backgrounds that are super marginalised in games. We've made an awesomely supportive community, already. I've been super humbled to be able to use my own passions toward a great cause. Anyway, I'd love my friends to come and teach these people a thing or two, or try being involved with making a game. And feel free to ask me any q's about stuff. Maybe there's a workshop you wanna see. |
