Audio often gets forgotten and game development conferences!
While the Melbourne International Games Week we're still lacking, we do have a bit more!

So, here's my schedule for PAX Aus! I hope it's helpful to any gameaudio students around :)

Nanojam 2.0: Live Game Design

  • WOMBAT THEATRE
  • FRIDAY 4/11 2:00PM - 3:00PM

Game design is usually a lengthy, iterative process. Experts spend countless hours massaging ideas into viable games. But what if we wanted to design over the course of, say, a PAX panel? What if we wanted to design a whole bunch of games?
Nanojam is a game design fracas featuring a panel of designers producing game ideas based on audience suggestions, with an artist and a composer frantically sketching and composing live on stage.
It's a mess. A big, wonderful, hilarious mess. Join us!
PANELISTS:Jason Imms [Word Mercenary, Most of them], Maize Wallin [Interactive Arts Composer and Teacher, Freelance], Leonie Yue [Character Designer and Illustrator, Mighty Games], Rami Ismail [Founder and Strategic Director, Vlambeer], Kris Straub [Cartoonist, Designer, Writer, Performer, Chainsawsuit], Alayna Cole [Games Lecturer and Writer, University of the Sunshine Coast]

Hey, Listen! - How and Why Great Games Sound So Good

  • WOMBAT THEATRE
  • SATURDAY 5/11 1:30PM - 2:30PM
To many of us, audio is one of the Dark Arts - we know it’s there, but how is it made? And what effect does it really have on us? Four of Australia’s brightest game audio professionals come together to lift the curtain on how sound behaves in games and manipulates players. Discover how music can change and evolve to follow gameplay, why games are so much harder with the sound switched off, and why collecting coins feels so good!
PANELISTS:Zander Hulme [Composer and sound designer, Freelance], Meghann O'Neill [Composer, educator and game reviewer, Freelance], Rick Salter [Co-Founder, Hojo Studio], Maize Wallin [Composer and sound designer, Freelance], Lee May [Communications Manager, Defiant Development]

Hope to see ya at PAX! And do send me a message on Twitter @MaizeWallin, or email maize[at]maizewallin.com if you'd like to meet up!
