How I ended last year, and what that means for this year!
I went back to school briefly! In an effort to run a little less blindly in to big projects the way I have done, I completed a Graduate Certificate in Community Arts Engagement, back at VCA. It was wonderful and intense and I wrote and learnt a lot! It was a perfect next step after my degree. Continuing my interdisciplinary work, and finally honing my community project skills to something actually backed up with a whole lot of knowledge. Wonderful teachers and students. Feel free to get in touch if you want to know more about the course, or hire me!

New job! I began teaching composition at the Australian Institute of Music, Melbourne campus. What an exciting shock to the system! Teaching is hard. I was definitely much much better with smaller groups of students. I felt like I could engage individuals with what they were interested in. Larger groups were.. harder. Students came in tired and unexcited. They easily hid behind other students, but most importantly I came in with a lot of assumed industry knowledge of what roles composers commonly fill. I've learnt a lot and will improve in to next year! Getting back to teaching as well as completing the Grad Cert, has made me realise how great it is to study and research things you love. The ongoing teaching is great, as now I am often consuming media and take note that I could use it in class as an example. Everything from apps and games to 3000 year old Chinese music theory. In 2016 I am teaching the Composition for Interactive Media elective as well as continuing tutoring in composition. A new and very exciting challenge, supported so much by my colleagues at AIM at Meghann O'Neil who wrote the elective I'll be teaching. I met games journalist and composition teacher, Meghann at Freeplay last year. Since then we've shared knowledge and great contacts. I'm excited to be teaching the same course as she does in Sydney! |
Holy WOW, I got a residency in VIENNA for next year! I'll be there for December and January, working at Q21 in the Museums Quartier and visiting friends in neighbouring countries. Perhaps I'll get to the Polish venue Thom and I exhibited in last year!
I have not been to Europe before, and it'll be very exciting to potentially have a white Christmas! Please tell me and introduce me to everyone you think I should meet :) |

For some reason I agreed to release an EP/LP thing in March. Stay tuned - so far it involves an interactive piece set in an explorable digital forest, and a piece about saying the names of different coffees in Chinese. I'll be updating with more on that in the coming months. |
